The Platinum Collection Rare Loose Leaf Teas and how we selected them

At AVANTCHA, exquisite and vintage teas are our expertise. Offering our customers only the finest teas and the highest level of service is what motivates and drives us. We are always on the lookout for incredible flavours that enrich and elevate your modern tea experience. To create our Platinum Collection, we choose a handful of outstanding teas that cannot be obtained anywhere else in the world – unless you visit our trusted tea farmers in China. Each tea comes with its own background story, which makes enjoying them even more special.

Baihao Silver Needle Yin Zhen is an exquisite, revered white tea from the Fujian Province. In our part of the world, it’s still an insider tip – however, in its homeland, it’s long been classified as one of the top ten Chinese teas. Only the most tender buds, harvested by hand in early spring, are used to create it, which involves a brief oxidation time and gentle drying process. The result is a wonderfully luminous, well-balanced and mild sweet tea with an elegant floral aroma, a suggestion of freshly cut grass and notes of dried apricots.

Xue Ya – Snow Sprout is a very distinct green tea from Huang Ni Ping. White, fine hairs cover its small and dark green-greyish leaves, which is why it was named Snow Sprout. While it steeps, the leaves unfold like clouds to reveal a refreshingly radiant, complex brew. The taste is slightly nutty and savoury, with the unmistakable fragrance of fresh fruit and flowers.

Da Fo Long Jing or “Big Buddha Dragon Well” is a stunning green tea from Eastern Zhejiang, an area rich in Buddhist history and with an over 1000-year-old tradition of green tea production. In the mid-1990s, Dragon Well tea masters stayed at the nearby Da Fo Temple, where they taught locals how to concoct this tasty green tea, hence the name. Its nutty flavour-profile with rich chestnut notes and bright floral nuances is a delightful epiphany for the senses.

Organic GABA Oolong grows in a nitrogen-rich environment in the Fujian mountains.GABA (Gama Amino Butyric Acid) is a neurotransmitter that inhibits excitation and promotes calmness;. Exposing tea to nitrogen during processing will significantly enhance the amount of GABA. To compare, Gaba Oolong contains about 36 times as much GABA as regular green tea. Organic GABA Oolong’s amber hue will delight you with flavours of ripe fruit and dark caramel.

Phoenix Dan Cong is an ancient, full-bodied Oolong dating back to the Song Dynasty. It grows in the highly acclaimed Wudong Mountain area, a region known for its high altitude, mineral-rich soil, warm climate and ancient cultivars. “Dan Cong” translates to single stem – unlike most tea bushes which have merged, they are planted as single trunks. These older trees’ deep roots contain a bounty of minerals that creates a uniquely complex blend of fruity and honey-like flavours. Smooth and delicious, it is one of the Guangdong Province’s most oxidized and roasted oolongs.
