About Darjeeling Spring Selimbong
Our Darjeeling Spring Selimbong First Flush is a tea of the highest quality. This Darjeeling clone, with a grade of FTGFOP1, is crafted exclusively from the youngest, most tender buds, carefully handpicked and processed - an excellent choice for connoisseurs and lovers of fine teas. The tea leaves present a blend of large, downy needles, long black twists, and open olive-green leaves. Upon infusion, intense, mouth-watering aromas are released that are reminiscent of petrichor - the enchanting scent that lingers in the air after a rain shower on a hot day: warm, sweet, earthy, and floral. The flavour reveals a distinctive, honeyed muscatel with a long, smooth finish.
About Darjeeling
Darjeeling is a tea variety from the Indian district of Darjeeling, the centre of Bengali tea cultivation around the city of Darjeeling. Notably, the finer Chinese variety is predominantly grown here, mainly processed into black tea. This gives Darjeeling tea its unmistakable taste among black teas: it is made from a variety usually processed into green tea. Today, green tea production is increasing in Darjeeling, but the region owes its fame to black tea.
Cultivation
This exceptional tea is cultivated in the Selimbong Tea Gardens. These gardens are situated at over 1,400m above sea level on the Indo-Nepalese border in the valley of Mirik, which is also famous for its orange groves.
Effects
Darjeeling tea contains moderate amounts of caffeine, promoting alertness and concentration while also having calming and blood pressure-lowering effects. The high concentration of antioxidants like flavonoids and polyphenols helps neutralize free radicals and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. The tannins in Darjeeling tea aid digestion and contribute to overall health but should be enjoyed in moderation to maintain its positive effects.
How to enjoy
Enjoy our Darjeeling Spring Selimbong in the late morning or early afternoon. Its delicate, aromatic flavour pairs well with a variety of accompaniments such as almond cookies, light sandwiches, or mild cheeses. The warm and floral notes also complement a fresh citrus salad, a honeyed quark dessert, or a light lemon sorbet.
