About Honeybush Chocolate Tin

Copper-golden in colour and aromatic in flavour, Honeybush Chocolate Tea is steadily gaining popularity. This sweet and flavourful herbal blend combines honeybush with cocoa cores, almonds, coconut, hazelnut brittle, chocolate drops, and rose petals. The nutty chocolate taste harmonises beautifully with the natural sweetness of honeybush. Honeybush Chocolate Tea is softer, sweeter, and more intense than rooibos, enticing with its light, honey-like note. Packed into elegant, airtight black tins, this loose leaf organic herbal tea is protected from light, air, moisture and odour, to preserve ultimate freshness.

About honeybush

Honeybush (also known as "bush tea") is a genus of plants within the legume family, specifically part of the Fabaceae family. Honeybush is known for its sweet, slightly honey-flavoured tea, which is particularly mild and aromatic. These natural, soft flavours make honeybush a popular alternative to traditional teas, as it contains neither bitter compounds nor caffeine. Honeybush has a long tradition in South African culture and is cherished for both its taste and its health benefits.

Cultivation

Honeybush is native to the Cape Floristic Region of South Africa, particularly in the provinces of Western Cape and Eastern Cape. The most cultivated species is Cyclopia intermedia. The cultivation of honeybush follows a three-year regeneration cycle, meaning only about one-third of the plants can be harvested at any time. Although weekly harvesting takes place from spring to autumn, honeybush tea remains a limited commodity. For tea production, only the leaves and shoot tips are carefully selected.

Effects

Honeybush is rich in essential minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Honeybush tea is reputed to have a positive effect on the immune system. It is also believed to regulate blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and provide antioxidant benefits. In South Africa, it is traditionally enjoyed helping alleviate cold symptoms and promote overall wellness.

How to enjoy

Honeybush Chocolate Tea is a perfect cosy drink for chilly evenings, or a gentle afternoon treat. Pair it with a slice of almond chocolate cake, hazelnut biscuits, or cinnamon rolls. The tea also makes a delicious accompaniment to desserts featuring caramel or fruits like pears and apples.
