About Organic Gunpowder Traditional

Our Organic Gunpowder Traditional green tea is a classic Chinese tea, with leaves rolled into tight pellets. The English name "Gunpowder" derives from the resemblance of these pellets to grains of gunpowder. This tea's flavour is robust and full-bodied, often described as smooth as honey, with a slight smoky and peppery aftertaste. For centuries, this tea has been used as a base for the popular Arabic mint tea.

About Gunpowder tea

The production of Gunpowder tea dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907). This high-quality Organic Gunpowder Traditional tea is cultivated and produced in China, specifically in the Zhejiang province near the city of Pingshui. Gunpowder tea is now grown not only in China but also in Sri Lanka and Taiwan. However, the best quality still comes from Zhejiang, China.

Cultivation

The production process involves drying, steaming, rolling, and then drying the tea leaves again. Originally, the leaves were hand-rolled, but today this is mostly done by machines, although premium quality tea is still hand-rolled. Rolling the leaves helps protect them from damage and preserves their flavour and aroma.

Effects

Gunpowder tea is known for its high caffeine content and its highly stimulating effect. It is excellent for combating fatigue and can uplift the mood with its refreshing and invigorating properties.

How to enjoy

Enjoy this tea pure or with fresh mint for a traditional touch. It pairs wonderfully with light, savoury dishes such as grilled vegetables, fresh salads, or seafood. It also complements sweet treats like almond cookies or fruit tarts.
