About Keemun
Keemun tea is predominantly grown in the Chinese province of Anhui, particularly in the Qimen (also known as Keemun) and Wuyuan districts. This region is famed for its specialised cultivation areas that offer optimal conditions for producing high-quality Keemun tea. "Mao Feng" means "hairy tip" and refers to the pointed shape of the buds and the soft hairs covering them.
Cultivation
The geographical features and climate, including the surrounding mountains, ensure a beneficial altitude and protection from extreme weather. The soil, rich in minerals and well-drained, is vital for healthy tea growth. The tea is cultivated in various plantations, bordered by forests and situated in valleys with a cool climate that promotes slow growth. Keemun black tea has been cultivated for nearly 150 years, with the finest buds and two leaves hand-picked in spring before the summer rains arrive. Through careful processing steps such as slow withering, rolling, and oxidizing, the leaves retain the complex floral and mineral aromas of the infusion, along with some ripe, fruity nuances.
Effects
Keemun black tea is cherished not only for its taste but also for its health benefits. It contains antioxidants and natural compounds that can strengthen the immune system, support digestion, and boost metabolism. Polyphenols and flavonoids in the tea act as antioxidants, helping to protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.
How to enjoy
Our Organic Royal Keemun is a fine choice for special moments of relaxation. Enjoy it pure or with a touch of milk or sugar, depending on your preference. Savour it in the late afternoon or evening, paired with dark chocolate to complement the gentle aromas of tobacco and wine fruits. Light cheese platters with mild, creamy varieties also pair wonderfully with this tea, enhancing its rich flavour profile.
