Self-Filling Teabags: Ways to Cold Brew Tea – Part Two
In this article, we take a closer look at using Self-Filling Teabags and how handy they are when you’re making cold brew tea at home.
What are Self-Filling Teabags?
Our Self Filling teabags are consistently among our bestsellers. They are made from unbleached, corn starch based PLA – which is biodegradable and can be added to your compost heap, or food waste bin. They are a great natural alternative to synthetic materials, as they are drawn from field-grown, sustainable resources. Our customers love the fact that, when needed, they can use these little bags to create a teabag. Our team loves to pack our rare Platinum Collection teas, which are only available in loose leaf, to take with us when we travel, or to give to friends to try at home or the office.

How to use Self Filling Teabags for Cold Brew
Self-filling teabags are a simple and flexible way to prepare cold brew tea in any container, from a teapot to a bottle.
When preparing cold brew, the amount of tea depends on the steeping time:
• Long brew (overnight or 10+ hours): use half the usual amount of tea
• Short brew (under 4 hours): use the standard amount of tea
For example, if you normally use 4g of tea for 400ml of hot water:
• Long cold brew → use 2g per 400ml
• Short cold brew → use 4g per 400ml
Avoid overfilling the teabags as the leaves need space to expand and infuse properly for the best flavour.

Serving Cold Brew Tea
To stop your tea from infusing further, remove the teabag/s from the water once your Cold Brew tea has reached the strength you prefer. Most Cold Brew teas take between 2 to 10 hours (for fruity infusions) to reach a satisfying flavour profile, so figure out what is best for you. And that’s it!
