Fuding Bai Hao Yin Zhen
About Fuding Bai Hao Yin Zhen
This premium Baihao Silver Needle Yin Zhen white tea is made from a specific cultivar grown in Fuding, in the Fujian Province, China. Fuding is the original home of white tea production. Bai Hao is the first tea plucked by hand in spring, buds only, and left to wither and dry naturally in the sun. As with other first harvest teas, there is a unique quality to the flavour profile because of the bushes resting throughout the winter and slowly gathering nutrients. The infusion presents a beautiful hay and floral aroma with a deeply nourishing verdant flavour (that’s all the goodness!).
About
Bai Hao Yin Zhen is also known as ‘Silver Needle’ or ‘South Road Silver Needle’. It is one of China's six major tea categories of white tea, created in 1796, originating in Fujian. Its appearance features straight needles of tea covered in downy white hairs that look like snow dust.
Cultivation & Processing
Grown by Mr Yang in tea gardens at 700m altitude in Taimushan village, the land here is rich with vegetation typical to the area – lots of bamboo, birds, and wild rabbits. Only the top buds of the tea are plucked in the spring and left to wither naturally on cool, sunny days before being pan fired and baked slowly to dry in baskets.
Effects
In Chinese medicine, white teas are seen as a kind of tonic. Bai Hao Yin Zhen has long been appreciated for the effect it has of dispelling dampness in the body, as well as cooling fevers. Enjoyed regularly, it can contribute to an overall sense of wellbeing.
