About Huoshan Huang Ya

Huoshan Huang Ya is one of the most famous teas from Anhui Province, China. Cultivated for centuries in the misty, forested mountains of Jinzhai and Lu'an, this rare Yellow Tea is smooth and mellow, with delicate notes of honey, soft chestnut, and a gentle hay-like undertone. Its quiet elegance and subtle complexity make it a treasured choice for those seeking something refined yet grounding. Historically offered as tribute to emperors, Huoshan Huang Ya remains one of China’s most revered yellow teas.

About

Handpicked from tea bushes in the mountainous regions near Huoshan County, this tea is celebrated for its subtle richness, smooth mouthfeel, and calming energy. Grown in cool, mist-shrouded elevations and nurtured by mineral-rich soils, it captures the essence of its pristine environment. Its layered, golden liquor and floral-hay aroma offer a quiet, meditative experience, deeply rooted in Chinese tea tradition.

Cultivation & Processing

Only the tenderest shoots—typically a single bud or a bud with one young leaf—are selected in early spring. The harvested leaves are carefully hand-processed by tea master Mr Zhang using the traditional men huan or “sealed yellowing” method. After gentle pan-firing, the leaves are wrapped in cloth and lightly steamed, then rested to allow slight oxidation of around 8–10%. This stage gives the tea its hallmark soft, rounded profile. The finished leaves are naturally straight, with a beautiful yellow-green colour. Once steeped, it creates a clear, yellow-green infusion with a sweet, mellow flavour and a lingering floral-hay aroma.
